Chair yoga is a form of yoga done using the support of a chair. This class will still allow you to get the full benefits of yoga including connecting with your breath, deepening your stretch, strength building, and relaxation which you would experience in a traditional yoga class done on a yoga mat.
Chair yoga practice is good for those looking to make yoga more accessible due to time constraints, due to work related long term seating requirements, limited mobility, chronic pain, or just to have a more secure feeling while practicing yoga.
You will need a sturdy chair with no arm rests, a secure surface so the chair does not slip – you can place the chair on a mat to prevent slipping. You may also need blocks (if your feet can not reach the floor when you are sitting and a strap (to extend the stretch if you have tight hamstrings) to make the postures more accessible.
